YAI Arts and Culture:
The mission of YAI Arts & Culture is to provide a diverse array of cultural arts experiences for all New Yorkers, especially people with intellectual and development disabilities, but also people who are isolated and marginalized due to disability and illness or advanced age, living in temporary housing, at-risk youth, and public school students.
In 1957, YAI began serving seven people with intellectual and developmental disabilities out of a small school in Brooklyn, New York. From the beginning, YAI has been dedicated to providing innovative services for those diagnosed with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities (I/DD). Over the past 60 years YAI has grown to be a leader in the I/DD field through our innovative services, industry trainings, and tireless advocacy. Our team of 4,000 employees supports more than 20,000 people with I/DD across the New York metropolitan area each year. Our commitment to a person centered approach empowers the people we support to live their best lives by reaching their goals, both big and small, every day.
